Introduction

History and development

In 1994, Ha Long Bay was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site. Almost a year later, on 9 December 1995, the Ha Long Bay Management Board was officially established under the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province, responsible for the overall management of conservation, restoration, and promotion of Ha Long Bay heritage values.

On 10 November 2025, the Ha Long Bay – Yen Tu World Heritage Management Department was established under Decision No. 4166/QD-UBND dated 1 November 2025 of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province, following the merger and restructuring of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board, and the Department of Monuments and Landscapes under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
